The world of ribs can be confusing at times and determining which type should be prepared a certain way goes right along with it.
Short Ribs are a cut of beef taken from the brisket, chuck, plate, or rib area of a cow. They have the short portion of the rib bone, which overlays with meat.
Spare ribs on the other hand, are taken from the cows rib section and are typically long ribs that are more associated with barbecuing.
So, the short rib is a crock pot kind of meal. Put your short ribs in and let them do their thing till dinnertime.
